Common Weight Loss Treatments We Offer Through Telehealth

Ozempic

Tirzapetide

Tirzepatide is a medication sometimes prescribed to people who need medication to improve blood sugar control in the setting of diabetes in conjunction with diet and exercise. People who might need a tirzepatide prescription can use Push Health to connect with a medical provider who can prescribe tirzepatide medication, including tirzepatide injections, when appropriate to do so.

Tirzepatide prescription medication, marketed under the brand names Mounjaro and Zepbound, is sometimes prescribed to patients who need better glycemic control in the setting of diabetes in conjunction with diet and exercise. Tirzepatide medication contains a compound known as glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) - similar to semaglutide - but also contains another compound known as glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP), making it the first "twincretin" medication available. Early studies also suggest that tirzepatide may also help reduce body weight in some people. The specific tirzepatide dosage and regimen prescribed varies from patient to patient but tirzepatide injections are generally prescribed to administered subcutaneously once per week. Branded tirzepatide medication is expensive, costing approximately $150 per tirzepatide 2.5 mg / 0.5 mL pen when paying out of pocket, even when using a tirzepatide coupons. Some insurance plans may also help cover costs associated with tirzepatide prescription medication when buying tirzepatide injections at the pharmacy.

Semaglutide

Semaglutide injection (Ozempic) is used along with a diet and exercise program to control blood sugar levels in adults with type 2 diabetes (condition in which the body does not use insulin normally and therefore cannot control the amount of sugar in the blood) when other medications did not control the sugar levels well enough. Semaglutide injection (Ozempic) is also used to reduce the risk of a stroke, heart attack, or death in adults who have type 2 diabetes along with heart and blood vessel disease.

It is not used to treat type 1 diabetes (condition in which the body does not produce insulin and therefore cannot control the amount of sugar in the blood) or diabetic ketoacidosis (a serious condition that may develop if high blood sugar is not treated). Semaglutide injection is not used instead of insulin to treat people with diabetes who need insulin. Semaglutide injection (Wegovy) is used along with an individualized low-calorie, low-fat diet and exercise program to help with weight loss in obese adults or overweight adults who may also have high blood pressure, diabetes, or high cholesterol.

Semaglutide injection (Wegovy) is also used along with an individualized low-calorie, low-fat diet and exercise program to help with weight loss in obese children 12 years of age or older. Semaglutide injection is in a class of medications called incretin mimetics. It works by helping the pancreas to release the right amount of insulin when blood sugar levels are high. Insulin helps move sugar from the blood into other body tissues where it is used for energy. Semaglutide injection also works by slowing the movement of food through the stomach and may decrease appetite and cause weight loss.

What Are Compounded Medications?

Compounding is the process of creating a medication that’s tailored to the needs of an individual patient. For example, some patients may need a medication in liquid form when the FDA-approved drug comes in a pill. Additionally, a pharmacy can compound medications of FDA-approved drugs that are in shortage.

Compounded drugs are prepared by state-licensed compounding pharmacies that meet FDA and state requirements, including quality standards. When compounding in compliance with federal law, compounded drugs are not subject to FDA approval and do not have to undergo safety, effectiveness, or manufacturing review.

SHC is partnering with compounding pharmacies to offer compounded semaglutide that uses the same active ingredient as Ozempic and Wegovy. In addition, we only offers a compounded product that contains semaglutide base (the same active ingredient in Ozempic and Wegovy) and not semaglutide salts (which are not the same active ingredient as Ozempic and Wegovy).

Are Compounded medications covered by insurance

While compounded GLP-1 medications are not covered by insurance, they are typically less expensive than non-compounded name brand drugs like Wegovy, Ozempic, and Mounjaro. For that reason, they can be an affordable option for uninsured patients and patients whose insurance won’t cover other GLP-1 drugs. Your healthcare provider may also prescribe a compounded medication interimly, as the team conducts a benefits check to see whether your insurance provider covers a name brand option.

Who Prepares My Medication?

We work with a third-party compounding pharmacy to process your prescription (if approved). Your medication will be mailed directly from the pharmacy to your address on file.
